Aster
Aster is a smart device used to monitor the conditions around a plant and react to help the user look after their plant better. The facial expressions and voice response allows the user to interact with the device to develop a better relationship with their plant to fully gain from the health benefits plants give.
Plants have been found to help people’s health not only improving air quality, but also helping to reduce stress, increasing productivity, and allowing them to connect more with nature. However, a study found that half of adults admit to killing at least 5 house-plants, due to not knowing how much water and sunlight it is getting and needs.
Ideation
The aim of this project was to create a product that would help users to be able to look after their plants better, so that they could get the full benefits plants have on our health.
Prototyping
Solidworks was used to see a more realistic version of the design to aid development, as well as showing how it would be manufactured and where all the components would fit in.
The device was designed to be easily moved around the house if the conditions around it need to be changed. It was also designed to be moved between plants as people own an average of 7 plants each.
Electronics
The prototype consisted of several electronic components, including: a screen, Arduino voice recognition board, lux sensor, humidity sensor, and a speaker all connected to an Arduino board.
